What are Kettlebells?

Kettlebells are more than just weights for you to work out with – they’re a transformational tool. When used in combination with a proper routine, kettlebells can help shape long, lean bodies. Due to their shape and handle, kettlebells are more effective than ordinary weights, such as dumbbells, body bars or medicine balls. Their graceful swinging motions engage your entire body in a completely natural and complementary way, which supports everyday movement. Kettlebells help you form sleek and slim figures by providing a broader, more dynamic range of motion than regular weights.

The American Council on Exercise determined that kettlebell training burns about the same amount of calories as running a 6-minute pace mile. According to an independent fitness lab, 50 minutes of Lorna’s kettlebell training can burn 955 calories, which is more than twice as much as lifting traditional weights and dumbbells. Lorna’s KettleX movements will tone you up and slim you down with a weekly workout average of only 25 minutes a day!

How did Kettlebells get their name?

Would you believe it all began with the church? For centuries, church bells were rung through the laborious act of pulling levers that were strung through wheels and attached to the bells. The largest bells weighed as much as three tons, thus requiring a team of qualified men possessing great strength, skill and coordination to generate the proper sound. In an effort to perfect the technique, bell-ringers would practice with non-clapper bells, called “dumb-bells“.

Similarly, would-be strongmen utilized old or leaky cast iron cooking kettles as rudimentary weights. By filling the kettles with sand, soil, or lead shot, they became load-adjustable strength-training tools, which could be lifted, pulled or swung about. In time, the name “kettlebell” was coined and kettlebell strength training came about.

Today, Kettlebells are not just for those that want to become strong or have brute strength. Their very form is perfect for more natural motion and thus are used in workouts to generate forms with long lean lines and graceful movement.
